This advanced excitement in the world of ophthalmology –laser eye surgery- has recently replaced those traditional measures (contact lenses and spectacles) in correcting vision problems. But before you go for such a surgery, you should first understand what is meant by laser eye surgery and how safe this procedure is.
What is laser eye surgery?
Laser eye surgery is a medical and surgical procedure that is intended to improve and correct vision problems such as far sightedness (hyperopia), near sightedness (myopia), and distorted vision (astigmatism).
During the laser eye surgery, a laser is used to reshape the eye’s cornea by removing calculated amounts of tissues of the cornea. The LASIK eye laser procedure is by far the most common of all laser eye surgeries. It involves the cutting of the cornea until a flap is formed. After which the laser is used to remove the tissues that lie underneath the eye’s cornea. The flap is then placed back gently and it naturally grows back and you experience an instant improved vision.
The second option is LASEK or EPIFLAP. This procedure involves the removal of the cornea’s outer layer cells which can expose the cornea more visible. A laser is then used to reshape or flatten the cornea while pushing back the outer cells. With this procedure, in a matter of days you can experience an impeccable vision.
And the PRK laser eye procedure which is the oldest option, involves the application of a laser which is used to remove calculated microscopic amounts of tissue which is situated on the cornea’s outer surface. The cornea is then reshaped and the patient would be assured of an improved vision. This procedure however, is performed with ‘local anaesthesia’ on an ‘outpatient basis’.
Is laser eye surgery safe?
This surgical procedure is approved and certified by ‘THE US FOOD and DRUG ADMINISTRATION.’ So it is by all means safe and effective in ensuring improved and corrected vision. However, since these procedures are relatively new, you can never escape the risks and complications that may arise from eye laser surgery.

I been thinking to buy a new dishwasher and my mom told me to get bosch stainless dishwasher. I read a review a while back and it said “This dishwasher has made life easier for my family and I. It does what it claims without any problems. Dishes do not require any pre-rinsing and they come out shiny and clean. I bake every other day and the pans always needed to pre-soak before, not anymore! The washer is quiet and best of all, it has a half load feature and a sensor to make sure it will not leak.”

Nursing In The Intensive Care Unit – A Career Spotlight

Nursing is believed to be a profession that requires many years of studying and training, some branches like cna training require more. However, nurses who work in intensive care units require more skills than other nursing careers. Nurses at the intensive care unit care for patients who are considered critical and are liable for life threatening complications. Patients admitted to intensive care units include traumatized patients, those with organ failures and post-surgery patients.
Nurses who work in the intensive care unit are required to observe and closely monitor patients in order to detect minor changes in the vital status that would necessitate immediate medical intervention. A critical patient at the intensive care unit is usually vitally unstable and hence, requires continuous cardiovascular and respiratory close monitoring. Medicaments are usually introduced through intravenous access using automated infusion pumps. Slight changes in the rates of infusion of some drugs can have drastic health consequences on critically ill patients.
Nurses in the intensive care unit should be able to analyze, investigate and react to many clinical situations. Moreover, critical care nurses are required to acquire some skills that usually necessitate long professional training programs. Subcutaneous intravenous catheterization or cannulation can sometimes be very difficult in critically ill patients. Most intensive care nurses are professionals at inserting intravenous catheters. Other maneuvers that critical care nurses are required to master include naso-gastric tube placement, venous and arterial blood sampling, rectal tube insertion and urinary catheterization.
As all intensive care patients are critical, all nurses working in this arena should be able to deal with end of life situations and other ethical issues regarding futile care. In some cases, the nature of the disease makes the patient unable to take the right decision about his care in the critical care unit. The intensive care unit nurse is trained to present the medical data of the patient to him/her or his family and ensure they fully understand the overall situation of the patient’s condition; thus, helping the patient and his family to formulate the right decisions regarding the patient’s treatment in view of understanding of the available treatment options and the possible complications.
New nursing school graduates are usually not eligible for working in the intensive care unit. Most nursing institutions demand that nurses would have to work first on a medical ward, before switching to the critical care sector. Initial experience is required to prepare nurses for the stressful job waiting for them in the intensive care unit. Moreover, nurses can obtain post-graduate degrees that can qualify them to be highly specialized in caring for specific types of critical care patients such as heart failure patients, post open heart surgical patients, poly-traumatized patients, highly contagious patients and neurological or neurosurgical patients.
Nursing is a hard but rather rewarding career to seek. Intensive care units’ nurses are the most skilled personnel in the nursing career. To become a successful intensive care nurse you need to study hard, complete required training and have a heart to understand patients’ illnesses and worries.
Default routing

A default route is used to represent all routes with no bits matching. In other words we can say when there is no router that have more specific match, then the default route will be match. We use default routing to send packets with a remote destination network not in the routing table to the next-hop router. We can use default routing on stub network which have only one exit path out of the network.
To configure the default route, we use wildcard mask in the network address and mask locations of the static routes. The default route is as a static route that uses wildcard mask.
For configuring static route we must first delete the existing static route from the router and then add the default route.
There is another command using the default route –ip classless command. All Cisco routers are the classful router means they require a default subnet mask on each interface of the router. When a router receives a packet for the destination that is not in the routing table, by default it will drop the packet. If we are using the default routing, we must use the ip classless command. The command is –
Router (config) # ip classless
The default routing sometime works with this command and some time not work but we should always use this command while using default routing.
A default route is a route that will match all packets. Default routes are used-
1. To represent the destination network outside the router’s own routing domain. A simple example of the default route is when company’s router connected to the ISP’s network.
2. When no other route in the routing table matches the destination IP address of the packet.
3. When a router has only one another router to which it is connected.
Configuring default routing-
The default route is similar to any other static route, except that the network address is 0.0.0.0 and the subnet mask is 0.0.0.0.The command is –
Router (config) # ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 (exit interface ip address)
Verify default routing-
After configuring the default, we can verify the route by the command-
Router# show ip route
In the routing table default route is denoted by S*.That is why it is called default static route.
